Founded in 2005, OHLA USA merges global expertise and a 100+ year legacy with the latest innovations and a strong regional footprint to deliver the most complex and challenging infrastructure and vertical construction projects. Our U.S. operations are headquartered in New York City with office locations in Massachusetts, California, Texas, Florida, and Illinois. OHLA USA is the U.S. division of the Madrid-based construction company Obrascón Huarte Lain, S.A. (OHLA Group), headquartered in Madrid, Spain.
1911
FOUNDING OF OBRASCÓN – The Sociedad General Obrascón de Obras Construcciones, S.A. is founded in Bilbao, Spain
1927
FOUNDING OF HUARTE – Founded in Pamplona by the Huarte and Malumbres families.
1963
FOUNDING OF LAIN – Construcciones Lain was incorporated as a subsidiary of the UK’s John Laing Construction.
1999
CREATION OF OHL S.A. – Obrascón, Huarte, and Lain are united to form OHL S.A.
2005
ENTERING THE U.S. MARKET – OHL S.A. enters the U.S. market as OHL USA, Inc. and opens its first office in Miami, Florida.
2006
ACQUISITION OF Community Asphalt Corporation – OHL USA acquires Community Asphalt Corporation, a general road construction and paving contractor founded in 1980.
2008
ACQUISITION OF ARELLANO – OHL USA acquires Miami-based Arellano Construction, a local vertical construction firm founded in 1973, specializing in the construction of healthcare, commercial, and education projects.
2010
NY MARKET AND ACQUISITION OF JUDLAU – OHL USA enters the New York market and acquires Judlau Contracting, a leading heavy civil construction company founded in 1981.
2012
CREATION OF OHL BUILDING – OHL Building was formed by merging previous acquisitions of Tower Group, Stride Contractors, and Betancourt Castellon Associates.
2013
WEST REGION GROWTH – OHL continues to grow organically across the U.S. establishing operations in California.
2014
OHL EXPANSION – OHL expands to Washington, D.C., Texas, and Illinois
2017
AWARD OF THE I-405 – OHL USA is awarded its largest contract ever in the U.S., the $1.4 billion I-405 Improvement Project in Orange County, CA.
2021
OHLA USA – Following OHLA Group, OHL USA rebrands to OHLA USA creating a more unified brand with a firm commitment to economic, social, and environmental sustainability.
2022
Award of $2.3 billion Purple Line Light Rail System design-build contract in Maryland.
