Airport Link Metrorail Extension
The AirportLink Metrorail Extension links the Miami Intermodal Center(MIC), next to Miami International Airport (MIA), with the City’s Metrorail transit system. This line was built between the MIC and the existing EarlingtonHeights Station. Included in the scope was the Metrorail guideway extension to the MIC, an award-winning passenger station adjacent to the Rental Car Facility complex, three substations, a bus plaza, and upgrades and new construction of several connecting roadways. The MIC serves as a central transportation hub for the airport complex, including a consolidated rental car center, a bus depot for public and private bus lines, and access to Metrorail, Tri-Rail, and AmtrakRail Lines.
This was a public transportation infrastructure project which included a rail transit system with an elevated guideway in an urban area. Due to the elevated guideway and construction that took place in a high-traffic area, traffic maintenance, as well as the constant coordination and integration of the operational Metrorail system, was required.
