Alondra Park Multi-Benefit Stormwater Capture Chamber
This innovative project features the construction of an enormous capture reservoir capable of storing 12.7 million gallons of stormwater and a park with sports and turf fields that will be constructed atop the 250,000-square-foot reservoir chamber.
OHLA USA is providing its expertise in water infrastructure solutions for this important contract that consists of extensive support of excavation to remove 250,000 cubic yards of soil, installation of stormwater pipes and equipment, and the construction of diversion, junction, and manhole structures. A major focal point of the project encompasses the installation 30 feet below ground of 3,200 precast concrete chambers. The chambers, together with detention, infiltration, sedimentation equipment, and the vast network of piping will remove contaminants from stormwater runoff to protect nearby waterways.
Once the soil has been restored to cover the capture chamber, OHLA will revitalize the park with new soccer and multi-purpose turf fields. This part of the effort also includes rehabilitating two existing baseball fields and planting native and drought-tolerant vegetation and trees, bioswales, and permeable pavements.
This $56 million project is one of many water infrastructure projects in OHLA’s portfolio that safeguard the environment and protect California’s precious water supply.
