SSS-1 M.A.S.T. at Homestead (Medical Academy for Science & Technology)
The new $9 million, 100,000 SF Homestead High School for Medical Arts for Science and Technology (MAST) is a flagship project representing a new generation of high schools for the fourth largest school district in the nation. MAST High School is both unique and innovative, incorporating an intensive science and mathematics curriculum as well as small schools career academies.
Remodel and renovation included the conversion of the existing three-story Homestead hospital into a new senior high school. The project scope included complete existing conditions assessments for the adaptive re-use; complete interior demolition and asbestos mitigation; re-roofing; and new mechanical and electrical systems, chiller plant, classrooms, science labs, media center, multi-purpose fitness rooms, administration areas, full-service kitchen and serving lines, and pharmacology, biomedical, physical therapy laboratories. The exterior work included an outdoor dining area, parking lot improvements, and new landscaping.
