I-40 Six Bridges Replacement
This critical $22 million contract, performed in two separate phases under full closures, called for replacing six structural concrete bridges along I-40 in the remote California desert. Our subsidiary, OHLA USA, Inc., performed demolition and excavation to make way for the new structures, which consisted of tall prestressed and post-tensioned bulb tee girders, precast-concrete box culverts, and cold plane concrete asphalt and hot mix asphalt. A genuine team effort was forged between OHLA and Caltrans when an endangered bat population was discovered during demolition, and activities were temporarily sidelined as a result.
The project, situated in a remote, environmentally sensitive location, was recognized with both a Success in Motion Gold Award and an Excellence in Partnering Award from Caltrans.
