I-55 and Weber Road Interchange
Our subsidiary, Judlau Contracting, addressed safety, operational, and capacity deficiencies at the I-55 and Weber Road Interchange, a critical commuting link that serves local businesses and industries.
The $48 million contract added a third lane in each direction of 1.6 miles of Weber Road, a north-south artery. The reconstruction of the existing interchange as a diverging diamond interchange was also part of the work scope. Considerable improvement in traffic flow due to the additional lane and interchange reconstruction is expected, which is critical to the area as it has experienced significant growth in population in recent years.
To carry out the contract, Judlau reconstructed I-55 ramps, built dual 252-foot-long, 60-foot-wide bridges and retaining walls, and installed interconnected traffic signals through the interchange. Placement of sidewalks, in addition to the installation of overhead sign structures, CCTV cameras, fiber-optic connections, and continuous LED roadway lighting, as well as an enclosed drainage system, were also part of the contract.
