Lakeview Avenue Grade Separation
For Orange County Transportation Authority, OHLA USA, Inc. served as the prime contractor on this $35 million project to elevate and realign Lakeview Avenue. The newly raised roadway allows vehicles to conveniently cross over the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway, where previously rail operations caused on-grade vehicular delays due to impeded traffic flow. Significant elements of the work included the construction of two bridges, two new signalized intersections, ramps, frontage roads, and the relocation of a substantial number of utilities. In addition, OHL forces constructed five mechanically stabilized embankment (MSE) walls and two standard retaining walls as part of the project. The project also included the construction of a precast-concrete underground detention basin.
Since work was performed in the vicinity of an active railroad environment, extensive maintenance and protection of pedestrian and vehicular traffic was required, in addition to resequencing of certain construction activities to take place during nighttime hours.
