Route 7-159th Street Reconstruction, Will-Cook Road to Ravinia Avenue
For this 2.5-mile-long roadway project, our subsidiary, Judlau Contracting, was selected by the Illinois Department of Transportation to reconstruct and widen Route 7-159th Street from Will-Cook Road to Ravinia Avenue. Construction of bike paths and sidewalks along the corridor were also part of the $61 million contract’s scope of work.
Major work activities included pavement removal, earth excavation, and tree removal. The project team also constructed multiple turning lanes and four dryland bridges placed two cast-in-place box culverts, concrete curbing, retaining walls, drainage systems, PCC pavement, and combination concrete curbing and gutter. Other responsibilities included installing traffic signals, lighting systems, water main, sanitary sewer, and associated work, in addition to placement of pavement marking and landscaping elements and implementation of erosion and sediment control measures.
Pre-stage widening of the main roadway allowed Judlau to maintain one lane of traffic in each direction – along with necessary turning lanes – to reduce impacts to traffic.
