South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center
The South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center is a multi-disciplinary space designed for the performing arts. Our subsidiary, OHLA Building, Inc., served as construction manager for this important institution that features a 961-seat state-of-the-art theatre, which includes a fly tower and orchestra pit, as well as a box office, lobby, restrooms, and concession areas, dressing rooms, storage, and work areas, as well as administrative offices. Construction of a Black Box Theatre—a flexible performance space was also part of the scope of work on this $38 million contract.
The separate Activities Building houses an informal performance space, lab theatre, dance studio, café, and smaller flexible spaces for lectures, classes, and community gatherings. The Center’s two buildings are joined by an outdoor promenade which can house pre-and post-show receptions. This promenade gently slopes down into a backyard lawn along the Black Central Creek Canal, which can accommodate more than 700 people for outdoor concerts and festivals.
