SR826/SR836 Interchange (Palmetto Section 5)
The SR826/SR836 Interchange has been described as “a pivot point” by FDOT and is used by 430,000 motorists each day. This interchange connects the city center of Miami with Miami International Airport and the Palmetto Expressway (SR826), one of the main north-south routes across an industrial area of Miami.
This design-build-finance project reconstructed and widened a one-mile interchange of the existing SR-826 and SR-836, two of Miami’s busiest highways. Featuring the construction of 46 bridges, many of which were both complex and multi-level structures, the improvements included sections of SR-826 and SR- 836 adjacent to Miami International Airport. They widened the existing SR-836 eastbound to the exit ramp to NW 57th Avenue. The entire corridor improvement totaled 16 miles. The project was performed by OHLA USA’s subsidiary, Community Asphalt Corporation, as a joint venture member.
